Gary started painting portraits of sports legends in the 80’s. He would have the athletes autograph the portrait for his memorabilia collection. This soon began to get him recognized in the sports world as the go to Portrait Painter. He has been commissioned by, Mickey Mantle, Richard Petty, Willie Stargell, the Marilyn Monroe Foundation, and many other superstars.
Gary’s Process is to work from several photographs provided by the client. Working on canvas, Gary sketches the subject and then begins the process of painting. Creating a photo realist style portrait that captures, personality, emotion, and the soul is a slow and detailed approach for an artist. Detail and lighting are the key to Gary’s portraits coming to life. Using acrylic, ink, pencil, and brush, the final painting at times will fool the eye into believing it might be a photograph.
